Scandalites

I guess this is the next get rich/famous quick scheme. Become a Scandalite. I'm not sure who coined the phrase, so I can't give credit to the name.

Scandalite Definition (paraphrased by me): Someone who does something scandalous with a famous person/politician and then uses that 15 minutes of fame to build a money-making opportunity that will make them famous for much longer than 15 minutes.

These girls are using their fame as scandalous vixens to get legitimate companies to want them to endorse their products. One such area of business is weight loss and another is handbags. Apparently the American public thinks that scandalites know what weight loss program works the best, or what handbag to carry to be in style. I guess you gotta look the part. It certainly worked for them. This is capitalism at its best kids.

Goal For Spring

Okay so I have made a new goal for myself for the Spring season. It is:

To Work Out and Look as Good as I Did When I Went on my Cruise Senior Year of College.

There it is kids, and I'm gonna do it. I decided today, March 13th at 3:22pm. I've dealt with some crap recently, and I think working out at the gym will be just the thing to release some of the stress I've been holding onto for about three months.

I signed up for private lessons for salsa, and I am gonna make a conscience effort to make it to the gym for weight training and cardio at least 4 times a week.

So come swimsuit season - WATCH OUT!

Automated Messaging Systems

One of my job responsibilities is to follow up on credit references for advertisers who wish to apply for credit with our magazine. When I call the advertisers' references, many times I end up calling a company that has an automated message system. You know what I am talking about.

"Thank you for calling Company X. If you know your party's extension, please enter it at any time. For a company directory, press 1. For the accounting department, press 2..."

So I called a company today that had an automated messaging system that was voice activated. After I heard the machine tell me this, I said, "Great," sarcastically. The voice comes on and says, "I'm sorry I didn't understand your last statement. Please repeat your last statement." I just start laughing and it asked me again to repeat my last statement. Priceless.

*Note: If you want to talk to a real person, just laugh a lot. :)

Weathermen/Weatherwomen

Okay so everyone at work was going crazy yesterday saying that our executives would close the building due to the upcoming snow storm. I usually disregard this because I don't want to get my hopes up, but for some reason I let myself get sucked in to thinking that we would have a snow day. Mostly, I just wanted to stay in, sleep in, and enjoy some pancakes and Tang at around 11 am.

I'm watching the news at 6, and all the newscasters are saying, "O yes, it's coming. We are going to be getting lots of snow, probably close to 6-8 inches." So now I am really psyched up about not going to work in the morning. 10 o'clock rolls around - no snow. 11 o'clock - no snow. Midnight - no snow. I wake up at 5 am, and we barely have a dusting of snow. Now, I'm mad. I go back to bed KNOWING that I will be getting up in an hour and half to have to go to work. Evil.

How can weather people be SO FAR OFF? Come on. We went from 6-8 inches, to barely a dusting of snow. I'd like to get a microphone, and ask, "So, how stupid do you feel now that we have hardly any snow? Did you mess up in your calculations somewhere? Did you forget to carry the one? Was this whole thing just a conspiracy to get people to buy milk and bread? Are you working with the supermarkets of the Marion county?"

Geez louise people. I understand that it is difficult to predict the weather, but it seems a bit ridiculous to be that far off with all the crazy technology we have these days. No more anticipating snow days for me. That way, I won't be disappointed, but delighted! :)

Things I Will Give You An Evil Look For

This is a top five list of things I dislike greatly:

5. Being patted on the head - I'm not a dog or a small child, please don't make me feel like one.

4. Ugh Boots in the summer - Really? Who made this a trend?

3. People my age calling me sweetie - I can handle it from grandparents or even my parents, but if you are in your 20's, come on.

2. Getting carded for a rated R movie - I HAVE to look older than 17.

1. Being talked about right in front of my face by people who "believe" they are whispering. - I CAN HEAR YOU, you idiot.

Crap-o-la

I had a crap-o-la day at the restaurant yesterday. It has been unusually warm for January these past few days, and the heat is still on making it VERY warm and muggy. I wear short sleeves while working even when the windchill is below zero, so yesterday I was in misery. Well I was just in a bad mood to begin with, but it all came tumbling down (literally) once I sat this one party down at their table.

First off, they had a child. Okay, I'm not a kid hater, but families with children do take a bit longer to get situated than a family without kids. No big deal, I just waited to hand out the menus. Well, they needed a high chair - okay so I took one chair away and brought back a high chair. But because I had menus and and an updater in my hand as well, the highchair hit the back of my calves every step I took. I look forward to bruises there later. Okay, at this point I was a little annoyed, but still okay. Then the family tells me that the table had not been cleaned properly. Great, now because someone else didn't do their job, I look bad. So I pick up all the silverware, plates, and napkins to put them in the wash (they were sitting on a dirty table so I can't reuse them). Then I have someone wash off the table. Now I'm really annoyed with the situation - not with the family, just at the fact that I have to redo something that should have been done right the first time.

So I go back to pick up new silverware and plates at one station, and there isn't enough plates to cover the entire family. So I go to another station wherein I am thoroughly upset because it has now taken me 10 minutes to seat one party with other guests lining up in the lobby to be sat. I just grab the last plate and fumble and drop it. Of course it shatters into a million pieces right in the middle of the restaurant. Everyone looks over, and someone makes a smart comment like, "You really shouldn't throw dishes on the ground." YA THINK? THANKS! You know, normally it wouldn't bother me, but last night I had just had it. I find someone to clean up the mess I had just made, and make it back over to the table to give them their last plate and say, "Have a nice meal."

Thankfully I went home early last night. Once I made it out to my car, I cried. Ridiculous I know, but I felt better after I did.

Today will be better. :)
